The influential All Party Steel and Cast-Metal Group in
Parliament has elected a new leadership.
Dr Hywel Francis, the Labour MP for Aberavon, has been made
chairman and Adrian Bailey, the Labour MP for West Bromwich West is the new
Secretary.
In paying tribute to the previous Chair, Sheffield
Hillsborough MP, Helen Jackson, who is standing down at the next general
Election, Dr Francis said, "Helen has been a great champion of the steel
industry in Parliament. Her wide experience in South Yorkshire in local
government and in her constituency was invaluable to the Steel Group when it
was formed early in this Parliament. Her integrity and her commitment to steel
communities was greatly respected by Cabinet Ministers, members of all parties,
employers and unions. We will miss her in the Group but I am sure she will
continue to be active on behalf of steel communities everywhere." |
